Excel - Products Development

Product Datasheet

The products stored in the Excel database are 10 as shown below, each having:

  • A product ID
  • Product name
  • Author
  • Type
  • Unit price
  • Sale price
  • Unit sold
  • Unit expenses
  • Total sale
  • Profit
As shown in the screenshot, I have formatted the column titles highlighting them with a light-peach colour, added a filter option and formatted the table cells showing the borders.

To view the formulas used, I went to the formulas tab and located the 'Show Formulas' option.

Upon clicking it, all formulas that were used are shown as seen below. Here I used a mixture of both functions and formulas to calculate certain values.

Moving on, using the above data I have made three different charts where one illustrates the number of units sold per product while the other two show the amount gained as total sales per product. The total sales are shown in two different graphs, one being a bar chart while the other is a pie chart.

The graph above could be very helpful in determining ways to improve the E-commerce business as it illustrates the total sales and amount of units sold in a clearly readable graph or chart format. This could help business owners such as myself to know which products are the best selling and which are providing the highest earnings.

As seen above, I can deduce from the unit sold graph that the product titled 'The amethyst legend' is the one bought the most with nearly 90 units sold while the least being 'Lost Poems of the 1880s'. Moreover, despite 'The amethyst legend' being the best-seller, the one with higher amount of earnings is seen in the Total Sales bar-chart which is 'King of Dragons', gaining as high as about 480 pounds. This once again, proves how helpful analysis with tools such as excel could be in an E-commerce businesses and how it could be utilised to make it a successful one.
